Maybe we were just lucky but our group had great chemistry (or maybe this tour attracts like-minded people) and it just felt like a day with old friends. Our guide Montse shared her insights and intimate knowledge of these areas in a very informal way. There's lots for foodies to enjoy with stops for cacaolot, food markets for Catalan embutidos, botifarra, and sobrasada, a rustic Catalan bodega for lunch with an obligatory porro mess, and housemade vermut. It was like a friend of a friend proudly showing off the favorite parts of her hometown. We were lucky to be the only family, so she gave us a very personalized experience. My wife, teen-aged daughter, and I thoroughly enjoyed our day of discovery with Alex. Barcelona's tourist explosion has packed more and more visitors into the same small "monument zone." Circle Barcelona introduces travelers to a bigger and even more interesting city.
